Here’s a snapshot of what this program offers:

  • Engage in short-term employment to fund your Australian holiday, typically limited to six months with the same employer.
  • Study for up to four months 
  • Complete three months of specified work to qualify for a second Working Holiday visa.
  • Enjoy the freedom to travel within Australia and re-enter multiple times during your 12-month stay.

*Entrance into Australia is required within 12 months of visa issuance.

 

Key Requirements:

  • Hold a passport from an eligible country.
  • Be within the age range of 18 to 30 years (35 for certain countries).
  • Apply online from outside Australia.
  • Not be accompanied by dependent children or family members.
  • Not have previously been to Australia on a subclass 417 or 462 visa.

 

The program includes two visa subclasses, 462 and 417, based on your country of origin.

 

Apply online through an ImmiAccount, attaching necessary documents and paying the application fee.

Please remember, you must be outside Australia at both application and decision times. Once granted, there’s no need for an additional visa like the eVisitor visa.

The application process can vary depending on your home country, there are 2 streams available:

 

Working Holiday Visa (417)

 

You must:

  • Be at least 18 but not yet 31 years of age
  • Have a passport from: Belgium, Canada, Republic of Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom and Northern Ireland
  • Have enough money to support yourself (about AUD 5000)

 

Work and Holiday (462)

 

You must:

  • Be at least 18 but not yet 31 years of age
  • Have a passport from: Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Luxemburg, Malaysia, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, USA, Uruguay, Vietnam.
  • Have enough money to support yourself (about AUD 5000)
  • Meet the educational requirements
  • Have functional English

 

Before you apply – Check if applications are still open for your country of passport as there is an annual limit or ‘cap’ on the number of first W&H visas available in each program year (1 July to 30 June).

  • all years of primary school and at least 3 years of secondary school where all instruction was in English

  • at least 1 year of full-time study towards an award at an institution in Australia where all instruction was in English
  • the part-time equivalent of 1 year of full-time study towards an award at an institution in Australia where all instruction was in English, or
  • 2 years of a full-time studying or training for a degree, higher degree, diploma or trade certificate (in or outside Australia) where all instruction was in English
